Self-Disclosure of Disabilities

The decision to disclose personal disability status to potential employers is difficult and complex. On one hand, businesses and agencies earn tax credits and satisfy requirements emplaced by Equal Employment Opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Act, and any other mandates. On the other, the stigma surrounding disabilities is all too pervasive.

We encourage self-disclosure of disabilities to employers for those who can find comfort with the idea. One idea that can lower anxiety regarding personal disabilities and employment is to wait until after an offer has been accepted to disclose. This can protect both you and your employer and facilitate positive communication.

Self-disclosing disability statuses gives you and the employer the advantage of finding appropriate accommodations to facilitate and optimize your job performance.

Please reach out to us if you want to discuss this with a counselor in a confidential, accepting, and affirming appointment.

Work-Life Balance

Work/Life balance refers to the trope of "all work and no play..."

A healthy Work/Life balance involves managing the amount of energy we give to work and to our lives. Within a capitalist system, most of us will have to work the entirety of our lives. What we want to help with is finding balance.

For some, this means placement in a job that offers a four-day work week. For others, this means being able to work as much as they want. Sometimes, when you do what you love for a living, work can be its own reward.

If you would like help identifying a healthy Work/Life balance, please reach out to us. We are here to help in any way we can.
